Terms & Conditions

Thank you for using Disciple Mode (the “App”). These Terms & Conditions (the “Terms”) form a legally binding agreement between you and Disciple Mode (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

1) The Service

  • Purpose. Disciple Mode is a voluntary focus tool that allows users to temporarily limit access to user-selected apps and categories until a reading goal is completed. The App may provide optional features such as accountability notifications and AI-assisted content (e.g., “Chat with Scripture”).
  • Platform requirements. Some features require iOS 16+ and Apple’s Screen Time frameworks (FamilyControls/ManagedSettings/DeviceActivity). Availability may vary by device, OS version, or region.
  • No emergency or safety service. The App is not a safety, parental control, emergency, or life-critical service and is not a substitute for professional advice (including theological, medical, legal, or mental-health advice).

2) License & Restrictions

We grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to install and use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes in accordance with these Terms and applicable store rules.

You agree not to:

  • reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive the source code of the App (except to the extent such restrictions are prohibited by law);
  • copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works of the App or its content;
  • circumvent or interfere with security features, usage limits, or any technical measures;
  • use the App to violate law, infringe rights, or transmit harmful, harassing, or unlawful content; or
  • use automated means (bots, scrapers) except as expressly permitted by us in writing.

3) Accounts & Sign-In (Optional)

Certain features (e.g., syncing or social/partner features) may require sign-in (e.g., Sign in with Apple). You agree to provide accurate information and keep it up to date. You are responsible for all activity under your account and for safeguarding your device and login.

We may remove content or suspend access if we believe these Terms or applicable laws are violated, including abusive conduct toward partners or other users.

4) Subscriptions, Purchases & Trials

  • Billing. Paid features may be offered via auto-renewing subscriptions or one-time purchases processed by the Apple App Store (or other platforms if available). Taxes may apply.
  • Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each term unless canceled at least 24 hours before renewal. Manage or cancel in your device account settings. Deleting the App does not cancel a subscription.
  • Free trials. If offered, trials convert to a paid plan unless canceled before the trial ends. Eligibility and duration may vary.
  • Refunds. Refunds are governed by the App Store’s policies. We cannot issue or override App Store refunds. Please contact Apple for billing disputes.
  • Price changes. We may change prices or offerings prospectively. We will honor applicable platform notice requirements; your continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

5) Accountability Notifications (Optional)

If you enable partner notifications, you represent that you have the lawful right to provide your partner’s contact information and to send messages to them. By enabling this feature, you authorize us and our messaging providers to send automated texts on your behalf.

SMS terms. Message & data rates may apply. Message frequency varies. Partners can opt out at any time by texting STOP and can request help by texting HELP. Delivery is not guaranteed and may depend on carriers and device settings. Do not rely on this feature for emergencies.

You may disable partner notifications at any time in the App. We may suspend or limit messaging to prevent abuse or comply with carrier or legal requirements.

6) Screen Time (Family Controls) Usage

The App uses Apple’s FamilyControls, ManagedSettings, and (optionally) DeviceActivity frameworks. You select apps/categories using Apple’s system picker; the App applies on-device restrictions accordingly.

Important limitations:

  • Screen Time controls are provided by Apple and may change without notice. Some apps or content may not be shielded depending on OS behavior or user/device settings.
  • The App does not monitor or transmit Screen Time usage, app names, or categories to our servers. Selections can be changed by you at any time.
  • You agree not to use the App to unlawfully restrict or monitor another person without their consent.

7) User Content & Acceptable Use

You are responsible for content you submit (e.g., prompts, messages, profile info). You warrant that you have all necessary rights and that your content does not infringe or violate any law or rights of others.

Prohibited behavior includes:

  • harassment, hate speech, illegal content, or spam;
  • attempts to bypass App restrictions or interfere with others’ use of the App; or
  • any activity that violates law or infringes the rights of others.

License to us. Solely to operate and improve the App, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to host, process, and display your content as you direct in the App. This license terminates when your content is deleted, subject to standard backup and legal retention periods.

We may remove content or suspend access that we reasonably believe violates these Terms or applicable law.

8) AI-Generated Content

The App may offer AI-assisted features (e.g., “Chat with Scripture”). AI outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, or reflect limitations of the underlying models.

No professional advice. AI outputs are for informational and devotional purposes only and are not professional theological, medical, legal, or other advice. Use your judgment and consult Scripture or qualified professionals when needed.

License to you. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, non-commercial right to use AI outputs generated for you within the App. Do not misrepresent AI content as human-authored expertise or use it to violate law or third-party rights.

9) Intellectual Property

The App, its content, designs, software, and trademarks are owned by us or our licensors and protected by law. Except for the limited license above, no rights are granted. All trademarks, logos, and Bible translation copyrights remain the property of their respective owners.

If you provide feedback or suggestions, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to use them without obligation to you.

10) Third-Party Services & Links

The App may rely on third-party services (e.g., Apple App Store, notification services, analytics/diagnostics, messaging providers, AI model providers). We are not responsible for third-party terms, policies, or actions. Your use of third-party services is governed by their terms.

11) Disclaimers

THE APP AND ALL FEATURES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE OPERATION OR THAT DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED.

12) Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, OR DATA; OR PERSONAL INJURY OR PROPERTY DAMAGE ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF THE APP.

TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIMS RELATING TO THE APP WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US (IF ANY) FOR THE APP IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers or limitations; in those cases, these limits apply to the fullest extent permitted by law.

13) Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless us and our affiliates, officers, employees, and agents from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your content, or your misuse of the App.

14) Termination

You may stop using the App at any time and, if applicable, delete your account. We may suspend or terminate access, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms, abused the service, or created risk or legal exposure for us or others.

Upon termination, the rights granted to you under these Terms will end, but the following sections will survive: 7–13 and 16–18.

15) Changes to the App or Terms

We may modify or discontinue features at any time. We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be notified in-app or by other reasonable means. Your continued use after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

16) Governing Law & Venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. You agree to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the courts located in Travis County, Texas, USA, to resolve disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms, except where prohibited by applicable law.

17) Export & Sanctions

You represent that you are not located in a country subject to U.S. Government embargo or sanctions and are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. You agree to comply with all applicable export and sanctions laws.
